Our Kielbasa and Kraut recipe is prepared with Fresh sausage from Cleveland, Ohio that is lightly browned with fresh sauerkraut and sliced onions. This comfort food dish is full of delicious, old fashioned flavors and easy to prepare. Low carb, keto friendly, and gluten-free, this is a hearty meal for everyone. Step 1

Place Lou's Kielbasa in a large skillet. Cover with water and bring to a simmer.

Step 2

Place lid over skillet and slightly vent. Cook at a simmer for 45 minutes or until internal temperature reaches 160°F. Turn sausage over several times. Remove liquid to brown sausage for 5 minutes.

Step 3

Place sliced onions in same skillet. Add olive oil. Cook for 5-7 minutes until tender and brown.

Step 4

Add a bag of sauerkraut and caraway seeds to onions and cook 10-15 minutes until browned.

Step 5

Return kielbasa to skillet. Add 1/4 cup water. Cover and cook on low-medium heat additional 10-20 minutes for flavors to combine. Stir, as needed.

Step 6

Serve hot.

Cook's Notes

If you prefer a milder sauerkraut, drain and rinse sauerkraut from bag before cooking.
